The art of living in the Bay of Somme

Les Bateliers is a characterful house located in the heart of Courtgain, the traditional sailors' quarter of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme. The narrow streets, the colorful houses and the proximity to the bay give this quarter a unique atmosphere, both lively and peaceful.

From the house, it's easy to walk to the quays, the port, the shops, and the historic center. A short stroll away, the sailors' calvary offers a remarkable view of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme and the bay.

The house has been renovated to preserve its character while offering the comfort expected of a 4-star rated holiday rental . It accommodates two adults, a young child and a baby in a warm setting, designed for short stays as well as longer holidays.

In summer, the small terrace allows you to enjoy the gentle breezes of the alleyway, while the winter garden offers additional space for reading, relaxing, or playing with children. When temperatures drop, the fireplace with its insert contributes to the house's cozy atmosphere.

The fully equipped kitchen allows you to prepare meals just like at home. Bed linen and bath towels are provided, and numerous amenities are available for babies and young children to make family stays easier.

Les Bateliers is a pleasant house in all seasons, designed for those who wish to discover Saint-Valery-sur-Somme at their own pace, in a central, authentic and quiet environment.

Our story
with les Bateliers

For many years now, we have been in love with the Bay of Somme, and particularly with Saint-Valery. The landscape, the unspoiled nature, the colors—a blend of gray, green, blue, and sand—the ever-changing light, the wind in winter and the sun in summer, the occasional rain (which never lasts very long), and above all, the rhythm of the tides that constantly transform the face of the bay. Saint-Valery, a port but also a fortified medieval town, has captured our hearts all these years.

We were tenants there for a long time, with a certain loyalty to the houses we lived in. And it was in this house that we spent our last few days before having the opportunity to become owners.

We are delighted to welcome you to this traditional fisherman's house. It is located in the picturesque Courtgain district, whose name comes from "petit salaire" (small wage). The Rue des Bateliers (Boatmen's Street) leads to the Sailors' Calvary and its oratory, from which there is a superb view of the bay. The houses, dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, huddle together, built of brick with wattle and daub sections, black foundations, and vibrant colors, still respect the centuries-old tradition of the fishermen who set sail on the "sauterelliers" (shrimp boats) to fish for brown shrimp. The variety of colors in the houses and their shutters comes from leftover boat paint, reused by those with limited means. Beautifully adorned with flowers, the district hosts the Fête de la Mer (Festival of the Sea) every summer.

We wish you as much pleasure as we have in making this house a reality, respecting its age and its features.

Welcome to les Bateliers!
